History of Ready Built Homes
Leroy W. Hindman, founder of Hindman Ready Built Homes, was one of the original House Movers in Lubbock that moved Ready Built Homes. Leroy was in on the inception of Ready Built Homes in the late 1940s and early 1950s when a Ready Built Home was nothing more than a 12' X 24' shell. The early concept became very popular during these years as there was a tremendous oil boom in Snyder, about 80 miles southeast of Lubbock. There was a great demand for some type of housing and there were just no skilled tradesmen or materials in that area, so the idea was developed to construct the basic shell in Lubbock and then move it on a truck to the location where it would then be finished. Of course, as with everything new, improvement is eminent and the Ready Built industry was no exception. The crude shells have evolved into the high quality housing that you see today.
